The Contracting Essentials Elearning course provides the key contracting principles needed to understand the most impactful contractual, commercial, and legal aspects of engineering and construction contracts.
The elearning content provides vital contractual knowledge that complements the technical/engineering expertise of participants. Application of this knowledge during pre and post-contract award phases of a project supports successful commercial outcomes, risk management and a productive relationship with contracting partners, which helps avoid unnecessary conflict and legal disputes on projects.
Particularly focused on the areas that have a substantial bearing on project outcomes, the course enables practitioners to mitigate risks and add tangible value to their projects.
Lessons include
- Contracting principles – contract formation, contracting strategies and related compensation models and important legal matters
- Scope and performance – covers contractual aspects that underpin the performance and delivery of the work or services
- Planning and executing – preparing to carry out the work and services, project baseline, progress measurement, delays, warranties, liabilities, completions suspension and termination
- Time and change – addresses time and change related contractual provisions in engineering and construction contacts and how these need to be implemented
- Other commercial matters - contract wide topics such as power and authority, communication and records, insurance and intellectual property

Who is this for?
The Contracting Essentials Elearning course has been designed for those newly involved in the process of contract preparation, review and negotiation, or who have not had formal training.
While target roles are likely to operate in the pre-award contract phase, training participants will also gain an understanding of the implications of pre-award decisions and mitigation measures during the project/contract execution phase.
On completion
A Kingsfield Academy certificate will be issued on successful completion of this course.
